Heat forces Columbia schools to dismiss early

COLUMBIA, MO -- Hot temperatures return Wednesday, which means a shortened school day for hundreds of Columbia students.

Columbia Public Schools announced seven schools will dismiss early because of the heat.

11: 30 a.m. dismissals:

--Jefferson Junior High
--West Junior High

12:30 p.m. dismissals:

--Lee Elementary
--Midway Heights Elementary
--New Haven Elementary
--Ridgeway Elementary
--Two Mile Prairie Elementary

District officials say all students will get lunch.  Students at all other schools will dismiss at their normal times.

Jefferson City Public Schools will have classes as usual Wednesday. The district spokesman David Luther told KRCG all the buildings have air conditioning. The only change will be shortened outdoor time.
