A Callaway County man was sentenced to prison after a traffic stop in May 2011 turned into a car chase.

Fulton Police said James Johnston took officers on a high speed chase when he failed to stop for an officer. Police say he had a two-year-old in the car during the chase.

Johnston was arrested, and the child wasn’t injured from the chase. Officers said at the time Johnston was on probation for possession of a controlled substance. A judge revoked that probation and sentenced him to three years on the drug charge.

The Steedman man pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child and resisting a lawful stop from the May incident.

This week, Callaway County Judge Christine Carpenter sentenced James Johnston to four years in prison on the endangering the welfare of a child charge and three years for the resisting charge.
