An apparent lightning strike is to blame for the death of a 20-year-old woman.

Lindsay Smith was killed Saturday when lightning struck near her canoe on the Gasconade River.

The Highway Patrol says the Fair Grove woman died on the scene. It's still unclear if the actual strike of lightning killed her or she drowned. An autopsy is planned for this week.

Two men in the canoe with Smith were hospitalized, but in stable condition.
