MOBERLY, MO. -- A newly renovated Moberly golf course is hosting this year’s Knights of Columbus State Golf Tournament this weekend.
The Heritage Hills Country Club is attracting dozens of players from all across the state.
Orscheln Property Management Administrators converted the once private facility into a public golf course. They made several improvements to the old Moberly Country Club and renamed it The Heritage Hills Country Club. Heritage Hills has new cement cart paths, 101,000 square-feet of fresh zoysia sod on fairways and a mile of new underground drainage. The name Heritage Hills was the result of a naming contest.
Executive Vice-President and General Manager of Orscheln Property Management John Van Cleve said, “There are generations of folks that have come through this place. To carry that part forward, even though now we are a public golf course, the heritage name seemed to make since.”
There’s definitely heritage in the hills of Moberly. The golf course first opened back in 1918. It has a rich past and a promising future as a public golf course.
Glen Martin and Bill McElhaney have been playing there for more than 25 years.
Martin said, “The improvements have been great. It just makes it more enjoyable being here.”
McElhaney said, “It’s the best course around. They’ve maintained it very well. They give you good service.”
128 members of The Knights of Columbus from across Missouri are expecting good service at this weekend’s Knights of Columbus State Golf Tournament at Heritage Hills.
Heritage Hills Golf Operations Manager Randy Barratt said, “We have our golf course maintenance crew prepping the course. They have it in beautiful shape. We’re really looking forward to having them here.”
Barratt said his course has several challenging holes for this weekend’s tournament and for anyone that wants to come out and play.
The front nine holes of The Heritage Hills Golf Course dates back to 1918.
The back nine holes have a more modern layout.
