Many times when you flip open the ad section in the newspaper or are in the grocery store you seen promotions that say 10 for $10 but is that really a good deal?

In our Facebook story of the day we looked into whether that's really the best choice and if you get the most bang for your buck.

Pricing promotions for buying more items are in an effort to coax more spending amid higher food prices and sluggish sales.

Usually when retailers attach a number to deals, such as "10 for $10," we as consumers often think automatically, it’s a good deal and we buy.

We usually forget to think about whether or not we really need ten of those items, if we have enough space for them or if that's really a good deal for them in general.

Then, more times than not, we buy more than we really need.

Facebook fan Tim Hartman warned “it’s not always a good deal, he said it's not if you don't need 10. A deal is only a deal if you need it!”
“It's only a good deal if you can use it. A lot of that stuff is at or near expiration so be sure to check labels,” KRCG Facebook fan Laura Womack said.

And remember, in many cases you don't have to buy 10 of the items to get the deal.
