Police investigating overnight shooting

Columbia Police are investigating an overnight shooting.

Police responded just before 2:00 a.m. Friday to the area of Northampton Drive and Bearfield.

Witnesses told police a 20-year-old male was shot in the right hand and shoulder. A personal car took the victim to University Hospital with non life threatening wounds.

Detectives and Forensic Evidence Team members were called to the scene to investigate. They found several shell casings at the scene and determined that the shooting happened in front of a residence at 2414 Northampton Drive. Reports indicate "quite a few" people were at the residence at the time of the shooting.

The investigation continues. Detectives are trying to develop leads on a possible suspect and motive.

No arrests have been made. If anyone has any information, they’re asked to call the Columbia Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 875-TIPS (875-8477).
