COLUMBIA, MO. -- After 2 years of construction, the first phase of a West Columbia street improvement project is set to open on Friday.

Scott Boulevard will expand to 4 lanes and add bicycle lanes and sidewalks when construction crews remove their orange cones.

Phase One of the Scott Boulevard project costs about $15 million.

Phases Two and Three will cost another $13 million and will include improvements to the south and the reconstruction of bridges at Hinkson and Mill Creeks.

Columbia voters approved the 3-phase project 6 years ago.

The total cost of the entire project is about $28 million.

Columbia City Leaders said the project will improve traffic flow and safety.
