When teenagers act out, some parents may send them to boarding schools or to boot camp.
But those options can cost a lot of money.
So are there other resources out there for rebellious teens?
It's a question our Facebook fans wanted answered.
So KRCG's Facebook Crew spoke with experts Friday to find out.
It's an age-old problem, what should you do with troubled teens?
After parents complained to KRCG about a lack of resources to help out-of-control teenagers, I went to the authorities to get some answers.
I found out that there are a number of out-of-control teen programs in Mid-Missouri.
The Cole County Sheriff told me that some of those programs can be found in local schools and even churches.
"Don't be afraid to use traditional services that are out there. We have some churches that have done incredibly well in their youth groups by reaching teens that have been pretty unreachable,” Cole County Sheriff Greg White said.
Preferred Family Healthcare is another place that holds programs for troubled teens.
Most of their programs are geared for teenagers who have substance abuse issues.
"Basically what they would be doing is group and individual secessions geared towards whatever their needs are,” Preferred Family Healthcare Una Bennett said.
Bennet said that the out-of-control teen programs can be very successful.
"I think the programs are critical. If you talk with an adult that started using drugs at 14 or 15-years old, a lot of them will tell you that if they would have got involved in a program at a younger age, they probably wouldn't have ended up where they are today,” Bennett said.
Sheriff White told me the first thing parents need to do with their troubled teen is to identify the problem, and for parents to act like parents.
"As a parent myself the key is being a good strong supportive parent, a good role model, and not be an enabler,” White said.
Tell us what think. Do you have a troubled teen and if so what do you do to help them?
