JEFFERSON CITY, MO. -- Update: July 14 at 5:30 p.m.:

Department of Corrections officials released the name of the inmate who died unexpectedly Thursday.

Terrance Rodgers, 47, was the inmate who died. He was serving a 25 year sentence for sale of a controlled substance from Dunklin County. He was received into the system in November 1993.

Original Story:

Officials at the Algoa Correctional Center in Jefferson City confirmed an inmate died unexpectedly Thursday.

We do know Algoa does not have air conditioning but we’ve been told they are providing prisoners with ice and water to keep them cool.

But we don’t know if the death was heat-related at this time, an autopsy is being performed.

We’ll have more details as they become available.
