JEFFERSON CITY, MO. (AP) -- The Missouri Department of Natural Resources says no injuries were reported after a chemical spill prompted evacuation of its environmental services laboratory building in Jefferson City.
The agency estimates that between 8 and 17 ounces of ethylenediamine spilled inside a lab when a vial broke around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. The chemical is used to analyze samples of drinking water. Exposure can cause shortness of breath, eye irritation and other symptoms.
A DNR spokeswoman says fumes from the chemical were contained to the lab. Employees returned to the building within three hours after emergency responders finished cleaning up the spill.
About 90 people work in the building.
