Columbia Police investigate shooting

COLUMBIA, MO -- Columbia Police released this statement about the shooting:

On 07/09/2011 at approximately 12:04 a.m. an officer in the area of White Gate Drive and Sylvan Lane on an unrelated call heard several gunshots.

Joint Communications also received a 911 call from a female stating the victim had been shot.

Columbia Police and Columbia Fire personnel and medics responded to 1511 Sylvan Lane Apt C to attend to the 18 year old male victim who had been shot once in the hip area.

This injury was determined to be non-life threatening.

The victim was inside the building at the time of the shooting. He was transported to the hospital and taken into surgery.


Investigators and Forensic Evidence Team personnel were called to the scene to assist. Multiple shell casings were located in the street outside the residence.

There was also evidence that the building was also struck by several bullets.

Investigators attempted to interview several possible witnesses but were unable to obtain information that could be used to determine a possible suspect.

Investigators believe the shooting was likely gang related.
