COLUMBIA, MO. -- A man is behind bars after leading Columbia police on a chase late Thursday night.

Investigators said John Wingate pulled into the parking lot at the Columbia SCUBA center on Paris Rd. when an officer tried to stop him for speeding and a lane violation.

Instead of stopping, Wingate drove around the building and hit two structures.

He then turned onto college and struck another vehicle head, before taking off on foot.

The suspect jumped into a woman’s vehicle and told her to drive.

When she refused, Wingate ran, but was eventually arrested at Fay and Wilkes Blvd.

He faces numerous charges, including driving while intoxicated.
