Many people have called, sent emails or posted on Facebook wondering the same thing -- if the Missouri River floods, will Salute to America still take place downtown?
The answer in short is yes. Salute to America has posted on their Facebook page that despite rumors, the event will still go on as scheduled.
They also said the fireworks show will still go on as well.
While many sit on the Capitol lawn, they see the fireworks shoot up over the river and assume the show originates from a barge. Salute to America said that's not the case and that the fireworks are actually shot from the sand plant on the north side of the river banks.
While it might seem that the water would quickly cover the plant, but not so. The water has to reach 32 feet to cover the sand plant itself. The concern would be the access road to reach the plant, but according to Salute to America, the city is working with the group to make sure they can get the fireworks company to the site as long as the water isn't over the 32 feet limit.
Premiere Pyrotechnics will once again be presenting this year's fireworks show.
