JEFFERSON CITY -- The Jefferson City Public School Board has approved their budget for the 2011-2012 school year.
The $79 million spending plan includes a nearly three percent raise for staff. It also adds eight teachers. Four of those positions will be at the elementary level, four will be at the high school. "The good thing is that we're in a very good financial position," says Jason Hoffman, JCPS' chief financial officer. "We're able to give raises. We're not really making any cuts, and so those are all exciting things going on. The bad, I don't know that it's bad yet, is the state's financial position is still a little murky."
Hoffman says, as the economy improves, the district will see more state revenue to bolster the budget. The budget does eliminate eight positions in the district, positions that were left open though attrition, including the position of transportation director.
