COLUMBIA, MO. -- More than 10,000 children on 4 continents tried to bob, float and flutter kick their way in the record books by participating in the world’s largest swimming lesson.
37 students in Mizzou’s Tiger Swim Lesson Program had a great time joining the worldwide event.
The swimmers were between the ages of 4 and 15.
The world’s largest swimming lesson not only attempts to beat world record, it also helps spread the word that swimming lessons save lives.
More than 1 in 4 fatal drowning victims are children 14-years-old and younger.
MU Aquatic Programmer Carrie Steuber said, “All at one time, we all got to jump in the water and teach the kids swim lessons and the exact same lesson at the same time. It didn’t matter where you. We were all learning the same things.”
Research shows if a child doesn’t learn to swim before the third grade, they likely never will.
