Original Story:
A Jefferson City woman suffered moderate injuries after the SUV she was driving was rear-ended by a tractor trailer on the Missouri River Bridge.
Jeanna Surface, 38, was traveling northbound on the Highway 54/63 Bridge over the Missouri River at Jefferson City around 10:00 a.m. when the accident happened.
Surface’s black Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling slowly, around 20 mph, behind a John Deere tractor, model 4250, in the far right lane when a tractor trailer in the middle lane changed in right lane, according to Jefferson City Police.
The tractor trailer, operated by Scott’s Concrete in Camdenton, was unable to slow down in time and ran into the back of Surface’s Tahoe, causing the SUV to hit into the John Deer, driven by Kent Schmidt, 56, of Russellville.
Surface was taken by ambulance to St. Mary’s Health Center in Jefferson City for treatment. The drivers of the John Deere and tractor trailer were not injured.
Images captured at the scene show that Surface’s Tahoe was pushed onto the guard rail and that fuel was leaking from the John Deer.
No word yet on if the driver of the tractor trailer, Benjamin Schroyer, 68, of Sunrise Beach, will be issued a citation by police.
The accident backed up traffic into the tri-level interchange in Jefferson City for about an hour while emergency crews worked to clear the scene of the accident.
