Budget cuts mean the loss of ten positions in the New Bloomfield School District. The moves were announced in a memo  to parents Monday.

Positions being cut include the high school band director, three elementary school teachers, two paraprofessionals, the high school secretary, a position in the junior high, a home economics teacher, and special education teacher.

Interim superintendent Roy Kramme explained the cuts today saying they mean shuffling some personnel to new positions and leaving other spots unfilled.

For example, the high school band program will not end, but another music teacher will be moved to fill the position, and the secretary whose position is being eliminated will move into a new role in the district. Kramme says he will explain the moves in more depth tomorrow.

In a letter to staff, Kramme says there will be a meeting Tuesday at 3:30 in the high school library to explain the district's finances. It emphasizes the New Bloomfield Schools are not alone in the state in making drastic budget cuts.

The moves will save the district $488,516.

In addition, the district's 6th graders will move to the junior high/high school building for classes next fall.

New Bloomfield's permanent superintendent David Tramel takes over the helm July 1.
