The Callaway County Prosecutor, Chris Wilson charged 77-year old Willie Leonberger with second degree involuntary manslaughter.

A request has been made for a warrant.

Original Story:

An investigation into the death of a 6-year-old struck by a school bus has concluded that the driver failed to wait long enough after dropping the boy off at his stop.

On January 18th, Hunter Pitt of Williamsburg was killed when he was hit by his North Callaway County school bus when he got off the bus in front of his house on County Road 182.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has been looking into the case since January. County prosecutor Chris Wilson tells The Fulton Sun that he now is reviewing the case.

The patrol report said no evidence was found to suggest that the bus driver's vision was obstructed and no mechanical issues with the bus.

The report said the bus stopped for a little more than 4 seconds, but the child needed more time to cross the street to get out of the way of the bus. Officers said the school bus driver was 77 year old Willie Leonberger.
