A Boone County couple is out of their home after a Sunday fire. Fire crews responded to 900 East Bluebird Lane around 5:00 a.m. Sunday.
The owners said their smoke alarms woke them up; they were able to get out of the house unharmed and call 911.
When crews arrived, heavy black smoke was pouring from the house, but crews were able to get the fire out in a matter of minutes.
Fire fighters say a heat lamp being used to warm baby chicks caused the fire. Nine chicks died in the fire.
Damage is estimated at 90 thousand dollars.
