Update: May 20 at 12:40 p.m.:
We posed several questions to our viewers on Facebook. You can join the conversation about what three songs would be on your end of the world playlist, what you would miss most and what you would do if the world ended tomorrow.
Update: May 20 at 11:40 p.m.:
Tomorrow is the day Harold Camping and his followers believe the world will begin its end. Do you believe him?
Summit Lake Winery is holding an end of the world party tonight. They are billing it as the last chance to eat crab legs, and their featured drink is the Zombie. Do you have plans before tomorrow? What will you miss most if the world ends?
And if the world doesn't end, how long do you think it will take Camping to issue a new date of rapture?
Original Story:
The world is ending on May 21 – at least if you believe Harold Camping, a Christian radio host, and the billboards across the United States.
The billboards proclaim that Judgment Day is May 21 and are all across the United States, including billboards in both Kansas City and St. Louis.
Family Radio has a counter on their website, counting down the days. They also explain that simple math in the Bible states that May 21 is the day God will destroy the Earth forever.
The site explains that 2011 is 7,000 years after the great flood when God warned Noah to get people on the ark before he flooded the Earth. May 21 is the 17th day of the second month of the Hebrew calendar.
The radio host, along with his followers, believe the world is ending. Family Radio paid for the billboard ads to be placed across the country and a representative said the billboards are not meant to be fearful, but inspiring.
But, a quick Google search shows people are scared. Some are skeptical. And one blogger is concerned for the children who will get hurt by this prediction.
Harold Camping was one who predicted the date as the end, but it was not the first time Camping predicted the end of the World. He previously believed 1994 would be the end, but said he had not completed his biblical research at that time.
How would the world end? Camping has said on his radio program that earthquakes will begin at 6 p.m. and continue through October 21. Believers will be called to Heaven, according to Camping.
Several others have predicted the end of the world throughout history.
Camping and his followers are warning people that recent natural disasters were not coincidental, but a precursor to the end of times. They are warning people that Jesus will walk the Earth again and only true believers will be sent to Heaven.
At least one Christian group has come out to refute Camping and his followers. Some have said he is a false prophet.
Others are predicting a different date all together. Many believe the Mayan Calendar ended on December 21, 2012 because that would be the end of the world.
While some are warning people the end of the world is coming, others are planning celebrations. The Florida Atheists and Secular Humanists are planning a Rapture Party for that day.
What do you think? Do you think the world is ending on May 21? Do you think these groups are inciting fear in people or inspiring them?
