COLUMBIA, MO -- Update: Saturday, May 7 at 10:25 a.m.:

Columbia Police released more information about the death of a woman at the new Columbia parking garage.

Columbia Police said Melissa G. Phelps, 39, of Columbia was the woman found on one of the garage's awnings. Police said her family contacted local media outlets and confirmed her identity.

Police also said she entered the garage at 4:43 p.m. according to surveillance video and the first calls came in about the body at 4:49 p.m. Video suveillance also confirmed the woman jumped from the garage, but police were unable to determine which floor she was on when she jumped.

Police were dispatched to the scene at 4:52 p.m. Friday and arrived one minute later.

Update: Friday, May 6 at 6:35 p.m.:

KRCG has confirmed a person has died in the incident at the downtown garage. The body fell onto one of the garage's awnings.  It appears to be on the 2nd floor.

Officials haven't said how the person ended up there.

The Columbia Fire Department had a ladder truck at the scene.  Firefighers used it to get to the body and move it inside the garage.

Prior to that, witnesses at the scene told KRCG they could see legs hanging off the side of the awning.

Columbia police are responding to an incident at the new parking garage in downtown Columbia.

The call first came in just before 5 p.m. Friday afternoon.  According to the Columbia Tribune, a person fell onto a canopy on the garage’s west side.  While crews are responding to the incident, officials have shut down 5th Street in front of the garage.

KRCG has a crew on the scene.  We’ll have more details as they become available.
