Beginning at 6 a.m. Friday, Sections of downtown Jefferson City will be temporarily closed for the Department of Natural Resources Earth Day celebration.

Capital Circle Drive and parking along the east side of the 200 block of Broadway Street will will be blocked off until 5 p.m.

The Earth Day event will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude at 2 p.m. on the Capital's south lawn. Participation is free and those attending will be treated to a variety of displays, games, entertainment and more.

This is the department's 17th annual Earth Day celebration in which state and federal agencies come together to help educate young people about protecting the environment.

One of those games will be on the main stage. It is called Environmental Survivor, which will test the environmental knowledge of students at the event.

A wild bird sanctuary will also return to Earth Day, compliments of the Missouri American Water Company.

More information is available on the Earth Day web page.
