You hear the words "tragic" or "freak' accident sometimes when it comes to childhood injuries.

But an MU School of Nursing professor says most injuries that lead to deaths are not "accidents" at all.

Patricia Schnitzer lead a survey of almost 300 people in five states who sit on what's called a child death review team. A team is activated in Missouri anytime a child dies.

The returns showed neglect by parents was a main factor in almost all of the fictional cases presented.

Our Facebook fans were curious about the report which you can read about here. Parents we caught up with at Jefferson City's Memorial Park Thursday night had mixed feeling on whether parents can hold most of the blame for their children's injuries.

One parent quickly recalled a recent case where a Linn missouri mother, Rachel Sweet is charged with involuntary manslaughter and child endangerment in the death of her infant son Cooper. Police say she left the child unattended in the bathtub.

But when it comes to less serious injuries, many parents agreed you can't always keep kids safe.

"Sometimes you can be sitting there watching your child and they can't be any closer to you," recalls Becky Cripe, and the next thing you know they are on the floor. So it only takes a moment and kids are slippery."
