Mickenze Garrett with Sheriff Franklin after receiving a certificate and $1,400.

CAMDEN COUNTY, MO -- He could have easily pocketed the money and no one would have known, but Mickenze Garrett, 13, decided to do the right thing instead.
Back in October 2010, the young teenager found $1,400 in a small change case outside the Macks Creek School parking lot. There was no identification inside.
Instead of taking the money, Mickenze told his father about his discovery. The Garretts then called the Camden County Sheriff’s Office.
The department held on to the money ever since. Because no one came forward to claim it, the sheriff’s office gave the money back to Mickenze Thursday afternoon.
“For his honesty and integrity and his ability to do the right thing in the face of temptation, the Sheriff of Camden County takes great pleasure in officially commending Mickenze Garrett,” the news release read.
Besides the money, Sheriff Dwight Franklin gave Mickenze a certificate for his good deed.
