Hundreds of volunteers were honored on Wednesday by Secretary of State Robin Carnahan.

She said she couldn’t function without their help logging and storing millions of state records.

Volunteers are working tirelessly to sort through dozens of boxes of World War II Military Discharge records.

The records will be imaged, indexed and provided online for research, done by a separate group of volunteers.

Earlier this year, a group of e-volunteers processed 49,000 death certificates for internet access in three days. A similar process last year took seven weeks.

New volunteers are constantly needed for new projects in the archives.

Jean Ferguson said it’s a great opportunity for anyone who likes to meet new people or learn how to research historical records.

Those who would like to volunteer can call Christina Miller at (573)751-3280
