KINGDOM CITY, MO. -- People just aren’t going to McDonald’s to get a burger and fries.

Today is McDonald’s National Hiring Day when company officials plan to hire 50,000 workers across the country.

Hundreds of people filled out applications at Mid-Missouri McDonald’s Restaurants in hopes of starting a new career in fast food.  Company officials said they have about 200 jobs available in the KRCG viewing area.

McDonald’s Restaurant Supervisor Robyn Shire said, “I myself started as a crew person.  It’s a great way.  It’s a great opportunity.  It’s just not about a first-time job.  There’s definitely a career possibility out there.”

The full-time and part-time job openings include crew and management positions.  The average starting pay is about $8 an hour.

Company officials said wearing the golden arches can sometimes lead to management positions.  More than half of McDonald’s owner operators started off behind the counter.

Justin Rottnek said he’d be proud to work at the Kingdom City McDonald’s restaurant on Interstate 70.

Rottnek said, “I actually want to be owner and operator of a McDonald’s franchise.  As soon as I save up $200,000, you’ll find me on the front page news of McDonald’s.”

Company officials said they can afford to hire 50,000 workers on their National Hiring Day because of increased sales of new products and they have a lot more 24-hour restaurants.
