A lockdown at Jefferson City High School on Thursday was planned, according to district spokesman David Luther.

Luther said the school planned the lockdown previously and the JCHS principals decided to execute it today. Announcements were made over the public address system at Simonsen that it was a drill, but students at JCHS were not notified that it was a drill.

Luther said the school has done lockdowns in the past, but this one was different because the school worked in conjunction with local police, who provided five narcotics dogs to do a sweep of the school and parking lots.

The school will send out a phone message through their robocall system because high school students were not notified that it was a drill.
