Update: March 31 at 5:05 p.m.:

Officials at University Hospital said the condition of one of the men in the accident at Highway 54 and Heritage Highway on Thursday has worsened.

John Ehrardt is now in critical condition at University Hospital.

Officials also said Dustin Hollandsworth is now in fair condition.

Update: March 31 at 7:45 a.m.:

Highway Patrol has released the names of the men involved in the accident.

They say John Ehrardt was driving the 1997 Chevrolet and tried to cross the roadway, failing to yield to Dustin Hollandsworth, the driver of the 2002 Subaru.

Hollandsworth was taken by ambulance to Capital Region in Jefferson City with moderate injuries. Ehrardt was flown by chopper to University Hospital with serious injuries. University Hospital officials said Ehrardt remains in serious condition.

Neither man was wearing a seatbelt.

Update: March 30 at 4:30 p.m.:

An officer on scene said the accident at Heritage Highway and 54 was a two-car accident.

The officer said a black Chevrolet truck was on Heritage Highway and was crossing Highway 54 when the accident happened. Authorities said a Blue Subaru t-boned the Chevrolet while traveling Eastbound on Highway 54.

The accident caused injuries to both drivers. Authorities said the driver of the black truck was flown to University Hospital with head injuries.

Highway 54 was reopened after being closed for between 30 minutes and an hour.

Update: March 30 at 4:15 p.m.:

Authorities in Cole County are still working an accident at Highway 54 and Heritage Highway.

Authorities are in the process of getting the highway back open, but currently traffic is being diverted onto Heritage Highway and away from the accident.

An accident has shut down Highway 54 at Heritage Highway. Traffic has backed up around the accident area.

Authorities called Staff for Life to the accident.
