Update: Thursday, Feb. 17 at 6:30 p.m.:
The spokesman for the Jefferson City Fire Department told KRCG the multi-vehicle crash on the Missouri River Bridge is clear.
No word yet on what caused the crash, exactly how many vehicles were involved, or how manyy people were injured.
Original Story:
An accident on the Missouri River bridge backed up traffic on Thursday for people leaving the city.
As many as five cars were involved in the accident Thursday afternoon that was affecting rush hour traffic as the state employees were getting off work.
Only Highway 54 eastbound was affected by the accident. Part of the eastbound bridge is under construction while crews are attaching a pedestrian walk-way to the bridge.
Because of that construction, lanes on the bridge were narrowed. Authorities have not released any information in injuries, but eyewitnesses said at least four people were taken to the hospital.
