Columbia police arrested a man suspected of stabbing another after urinating on the victim's dog downtown Wednesday night.

According to Columbia Police spokesperson Jill Wieneke, officers responded to call around 10:30 p.m. in the alley between 9th and 10th Streets. The 911 caller said a man had been stabbed and the suspect had run from the area.

Police identified the suspect as Deanthony Weir, 26, of Columbia and found him at the corner of 9th and Locust. He was arrested seven minutes after the 911 call was made.

The 36-year-old man who was stabbed told police he went outside with his dog and while in the alley, he found Weir, who was urinating.

According to police Weir urinated on the victim’s dog and was angry when the victim confronted him about it. The victim said Weir then stabbed him in the abdomen.

The victim was transported to a local hospital. His condition is unknown.

Weir was arrested on suspicion of first degree assault and his bond will be set at a hearing.
