Smoke detectors helped two people get out of a burning house in Ashland early Wednesday morning.
The fire broke out around 2 a.m. on Joy Road. Fifteen firefighters responded and it took 15 minutes to get the blaze under control, but crews were on the scene for nearly 3 hours breaking down the fire.
Two people got out alive, but the homeowner's hair was cinged when he opened the basement door.
Damage is estimated at $200,000 and the fire department said it looked like the fire started in the basement. The cause is still under investigation.
