A Columbia man was hospitalized Tuesday night after being stabbed several times.
Damoris Pierce, 19, was found after police were called for an assault on Claudell Lane in Columbia. Police said the man called 911 and said he was in the middle of the street and had been stabbed. He had multiple stab wounds when police found him.
According to reports, Pierce said he had been walking down the street and was attacked by an unknown man for no reason. Evidence found at the scene did not support that statement.
Police talked to neighbors who said there had been a disturbance in the basement of 607 Claudell. A blood trail was located and led to Apt. #1. Officers searched the apartment to make sure no other victims needed help.
According to police, Robert Shavers, 31, was found at the apartment and is believed to be involved with the disturbance. He told police the assault and argument happened over a drug debt. Pierce was unwilling to give police more information.
At the apartment, police found evidence of the stabbing and got a search warrant. They also found the knife that police think was used in the assault.
Pierce’s wounds were not life threatening and no arrests have been made. Police continue to investigate the incident.
