BOONE COUNTY, MO -- Update: Monday, Feb. 14 at 1:55 p.m.:

Fire officials in Boone County have released the name of a man killed in a weekend mobile home fire.

The Boone County Fire Protection District says Jerry Parker, of Columbia, died in the blaze.

Saturday afternoon, a neighbor reported hearing someone inside kicking and yelling for help.

Firefighters said they arrived within 4 minutes of getting the report. They saw heavy smoke and flames with about 75% of the trailer involved.

The BCFPD said 4 firefighters immediately entered the mobile home and searched for the victim. They found Parker inside, but he did not survive.

It took fire crews about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control.

Fire investigators are still investigating the cause. They say it is not suspicious. Right now, it’s not known if there were any working smoke detectors inside the house.

The last fatality fire in the Boone County Fire District was in 2009. There were 2 fatalities within a month.

Original story:

A Boone County man is dead after a mobile home caught fire at 5350 Old Millers Road near Columbia.

Seven fire trucks and 38 firefighters fought the blaze after arriving on the scene just after 5:30 p.m Saturday.

The name of the man isn't being released because officials say the fire is being considered suspicious. The Boone County Sheriff's Department, the state fire marshal, and the medical examiner are investigating.
