MoDot closed part of Interstate 44 in Missouri after a crash backed traffic up for several miles.

The accident happened in Oklahoma, eight miles from the Missouri border. Oklahoma law enforcement said an SUV veered off a bridge on I44 and into an icy river. The SUV dropped 80 feet into the water.

The truck landed in a shallow area of the river, which allowed most of the passengers to exit the vehicle and get on top. Two were still inside when rescue workers reached the SUV.

Travelers on I44 in Missouri were given several options based on their location on the interstate. Springfield drivers were detoured south on Hwy 65.
