JEFFERSON CITY, MO -- A number of people were out braving the snowy conditions Wednesday to pick up a few items from some local grocery stores in Jefferson City.

Some stores told KRCG Sunday and Monday of this week have been the busiest days they’ve seen in a while.

A number of shoppers were out braving the snow and frigid temperatures Wednesday to buy a few items at grocery stores.

"People are coming in with families, husbands are coming in, and wives are coming in; just everyone is coming in to town to go grocery stores. I’m very surprised there's this many people are out,” Cole County resident Tiffany Haulenbeek said.

Hy-Vee said it was slow Wednesday morning but in the afternoon business picked up.

"Today it was a little quiet this morning, but this afternoon has been just like a normal day, once they got the roads cleared,” Hy-Vee Manager of Perishables Aaron Garms said.

Garms said Sunday and Monday before the big snow storm Hy-Vee was the busiest it's been in a very long time.

"Sunday was one our busiest days ever and Monday was another banner day. We had every checkout lane open,” Garms said. “We tried to get customers through as fast as we could, and take care of them as well as we could with the amount of help we had."

Garms said running out of groceries was never really a thought because they were prepared the winter storm.

"We saw the weather was coming so we geared up our orders towards the end of last week to prepare for the storm,” Garms said.

Walgreens in Jefferson City was also bombarded with a lot of people before the storm hit.

Their manager tells us they ran out of shovels and ice scrappers very fast.
