Update: Wed. Feb. 2, at 2 p.m.

Columbia officials are continuing to operate in a weather emergency mode on Wednesday. Authorities are planning to reopen offices are Thursday, but want to make sure people are not out on the roads unless necessary as plows continue to remove snow from roadways.

“It may be sunny and look nice outside, but the snow is deep and temperatures are bitterly cold, “ said Zim Schwartze, Director of Office of Emergency Management. “Residential areas are still particularly hazardous and we ask people to continue to stay inside. The less traffic we have, the faster road crews can clear neighborhood streets and cul-de-sacs,” explained Schwartze.

Original Story Tuesday, Feb. 2:

Jefferson City has stated that the snow emergency will end today at 4 P.M. That declaration has been in effect since Monday evening.

During an official emergency, people are prohibited from stopping, standing, parking, or abandoning their cars in any way that obstructs traffic.

Crews will continue to clear major and local routes and citizens are encouraged to stay home unless leaving is absolutely necessary. Cars should also continue to be left off streets as much as possible.
