KANSAS CITY, MO. -- A Kansas City man who caused a crash that killed a 12-year-old boy is facing a 30-year prison sentence.
Clayton Dunlap was sentenced yesterday for second-degree murder, assault, resisting arrest, driving while intoxicated and three counts of driving without a license.
The 31-year-old man had pleaded guilty to those charges.
Dunlap already had 16 prior convictions for driving without a license when he crashed a sport utility vehicle into a small car stopped at a Kansas City intersection last March 27.
The Examiner out of Independence, Missouri said Dunlap slammed into the back of the small car. Dunlap smelled of PCP and was apparently intoxicated, according to court records.
The collision crushed the car and killed 12-year old Damian Slayton, who was riding in the back seat.
Police said Dunlap was high on drugs and driving nearly twice the speed limit.
KCTV reports Dunlap read a letter to the boy's family in court telling them he was sorry.
