COLUMBIA, MO -- Police in Columbia are looking for the person responsible for shooting a man overnight.

Just after midnight, officers responded to the area of 5th Street and Rogers Street in north-central Columbia.

The victim, 19, had a gunshot wound to his neck. Police aren’t releasing his name at this time and his condition is unknown.

Officers searched the area and found several shell casings near the 800 block of Washington Avenue. That’s just north from where the officers found the victim.

The victim and a witness told detectives they were walking on Washington when a dark-colored vehicle with its headlights off drove by. Detectives believe the shots came from the vehicle.

Officer Jill Wieneke said there are no suspects at this time and the motive for the shooting is unknown.

Anyone with information on this incident can place an anonymous tip by calling CrimeStoppers at (573) 875-TIPS.
