FULTON, Mo. (AP) -- The closing of a mental health unit in Marshal might be good news for employees of the Fulton State Hospital.
Marty Martin-Forman, chief operating officer of the Fulton hospital, said Monday that she is now cautiously optimistic that 43 jobs that were scheduled to be lost at Fulton might be saved.
Mark Stringer, acting director of the Missouri Division of Psychiatric Services, says the Missouri Department of Mental Health is transferring a 24-bed developmental disability forensic unit from the Marshall Habilitation Center to Fulton.
He told the Fulton Sun that the move to Fulton will be completed by April 15.
It's part of an extensive realignment of the mental health department around the state. Previously, the state had said the realignment would cost Fulton State Hospital up to 270 jobs.
