COLUMBIA, MO. -- After nearly a quarter of a century, the Columbia Convention and Visitors Bureau Director is moving on.
Lorah Steiner announced that she has been selected for a position as Director of Tourism for Charlotte County, Florida.
Steiner is the fifth administrator from the City of Columbia to quit since October.
City Manager Bill Watkins plans to start a nationwide search for Steiner’s replacement in the coming weeks and appoint an interim director as soon as possible.
Steiner is responsible for attracting major concerts to Columbia including Cher, Elton John and The Beach Boys.
She also brought in some huge conventions like this past summer’s National Biker’s Round-Up.
Steiner said, “I’ll miss the dialogue in this city. I’m not sure that there is a city on the face of the earth that is more engaged, better or worse that is more engaged than this community.”
Steiner’s last day with the Columbia Convention and Visitors Bureau is expected to be on February 15.
She will start her new position on February 28.
