(AP) -- A former St. Louis-area doctor has been sentenced to five months in prison for lying to the FBI about his Medicare billings.
A federal judge on Wednesday handed down the sentence for Dr. Howard Goldstein, formerly of SSM St. Charles Clinic Medical Group. Goldstein has since moved to Baltimore and is not practicing medicine.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Goldstein's attorney spent 90 minutes in court blaming his client's poor handwriting and overburdened schedule.
Goldstein pleaded guilty in October to one count of making false statements.
