70 years to the day it was hit by German bombers, bells at the St. Mary the Virgin, Aldermanbury rang in unison with chimes at the St. Pauls Cathedral in London. The bells rang for two minutes just after 12:00p.m to mark the largest German air raid of World War II.

Fulton firefighters were also on hand, they laid a wreath on the church doorsteps to honor day.

One woman who lived through the bombing was Rhona Havers, she said, "Well at the time it was pretty bad, we new we would be going to war. It was very hard for everybody including the civilians and we happen to be living in an area in Kent where all the troops were eventually evacuated from Dunkirk."

After the German bombing blitz on December 29,1940 St. Mary's stood in ruin until it was brought to Fulton in 1969 as a memorial to Sir Winston Churchill.
