FULTON, MO -- Officials with the Fulton Fire Department ruled an early morning duplex fire accidental.
Firefighters responded to the fire at 1202 Kathy Street just before 6 a.m. Monday. When they arrived, smoke was coming out of the brick building.
Fire officials said cooking oil caught fire on the stove, which started the blaze. The flames spread from the kitchen to the attic area above the kitchen. Firefighters extinguished the flames within minutes.
Firefighters rescued an animal from the duplex. Everyone else inside made it out with no injuries.
Damage is estimated at $50,000.
The Fulton Fire Department said smoke detectors inside the duplex were not working.
The adjoining duplex received minimal damage and is still in use.
