JEFFERSON CITY, MO. -- Christmas might be over but the shopping season is still in full swing.
The day after Christmas is long known to be the day when shoppers take back unwanted items and spend gift cards.
"We heard a lot of sales are after Christmas and I’m going to my favorite store, Victoria’s Secret," Capitol Mall sale shopper Regina said.
Shoppers filled the retail stores across Jefferson City looking for steals and deals Sunday.
While Old Saint Nick left Mid Missouri a while ago shoppers say the bargains are just too good to pass up.
"Just looking for bargains, always looking to save some money,” Bargain hunter Charlotte Marsch said. “I've found a lot of bargains for shopping for my young kids, buying clothes for them for next year, some Christmas clothes for next year."
Shoppers we talked to were out looking for half priced items, quality clothing, and just about anything they thought was a good deal.
"Crowds haven't been too bad today but the sales have been good,” Marsch said. “I was really surprised how much retailers were discounting prices the last week or two before Christmas but now there are even bigger markdowns."
In Jefferson City stores like Target, Old Navy and Dillard’s were hot spots for shoppers looking to make good on after Christmas savings.
Some shoppers we talked to said they've thought about bypassing Christmas altogether and waiting for the post holiday sales.
“We've actually thought about that in our family, we've talked about it some, ya know, wait till after Christmas and just do all of our shopping then because everything is cheaper,” Marsch said. “You may not get exactly that one thing that you were looking for."
Total holiday sales are expected to top $451 billion.
That's up about 3% from last year.
For some of the best after holiday deals shoppers should also check out large appliances and electronics.
