The United States Postal Service said Monday is their busiest mailing day of the year, with more than 800 million pieces of mail entering the system.

Even with the 40 percent increase from the daily average of 559 million, Postmaster General Patrick R. Donahoe said its not too late to ship.

Donahoe said that Dec. 20 is the recommended deadline for sending cards and letters to arrive for Christmas.

Tuesday is the deadline to ship using Priority Mail.

For the last minute shoppers, packages can still arrive on time if you send them on Wednesday, but you will have to use Express Mail.

United States Postal service also reminds customers that you can skip standing in line at the post office altogether by printing shipping labels and paying for postage at their website, usps.com.
