Accident on Highway 50 killed 1 woman and injured 3 others

COLE COUNTY, MO -- Update: Tuesday, Dec. 28 at 6:25 p.m.:

One woman is doing better and the other worse following the wrong-way fatal crash on Highway 50 last week.

An official with University Hospital said Angela Laws is in critical condition. That’s better than how she was doing last week. At that point, hospital officials told us Laws was in serious condition.

Last week, Jacqueline Herndon was in good condition. She’s now listed as fair, which is slightly worse.

The Highway Patrol said it’s still in the process of filling out the crash report. It could be another 2 weeks before it’s finished.

Update: Wednesday, Dec. 23 at 11:30 a.m.:

A Jefferson City woman clings to life while a Linn woman improves to good condition after Monday’s crash on Highway 50 in Cole County. 

The three car crash took the life of Carol Hubecky, 63, of Linn.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says it is still trying to figure out why the driver of the car the hit Hubecky was driving the wrong way on the highway. 

The driver of the wrong-way car is identified as Angela Laws, 43, of Jefferson City. She is listed in critical condition at University Hospital in Columbia. 

The passenger in Hubecky’s car has been upgraded to good condition. Jacqueline Herdon, 39, of Linn had been listed in serious condition on Monday and Tuesday.

 Update: Monday, Dec. 20 at 3:05 p.m.:

A 3-car crash on U.S. 50 took the life of a Linn woman Monday morning.

Carol Hubecky, 63, was driving in the westbound lanes of U.S. 50 when a car going the wrong way on the highway hit her head on.

A third vehicle then hit the car that was going the wrong way.

Angela Laws, 43, was driving the wrong way. She’s listed in critical condition at University Hospital in Columbia.

A passenger in Hubecky’s car also is in serious condition at University Hospital.

The driver of the third vehicle suffered minor injuries. Emergency crews treated him at the scene.

The medical examiner pronounced Hubecky dead at the scene.

Troop F investigated the crash. It was the troop’s 55th fatality of the year.

Update: Monday, Dec. 20, 2010 at 1:05 p.m.:

According to MoDOT, all lanes of westbound U.S. 50/63 near Routes J and M interchange are open.

The crash had closed one westbound lane.

Original Story:

An accident on Highway 50 East of Taos slowed traffic early Monday around 6:30 a.m.

Multiple fire trucks and ambulances were called to the scene.

It happened just east of the Taos/Osage City Exit. Vehicles traveling westbound on Highway 50 were backed up for more two miles waiting to get through the accident. One man said he hadn't moved in over an hour.

At least two vehicles were involved. Authorities have yet to release anymore information.
