JEFFERSON CITY, MO. -- Jefferson City voters will be considering a lodging tax increase for the city in next February’s election.
At a special work session Monday night, the city council voted unanimously to put the issue to a vote. Under the proposal, revenue raised from a four cent increase in the lodging tax would go directly to fund the proposed conference center project. The tax is paid through the bills of city hotel and motel customers.
Council members said it the tax increase and conference center plans are approved, it will still be two years before construction on the conference center could begin.
