A mid-Missouri church leader charged with child sex crimes could appear in court Monday.

Travis Smith's lawyer filed a motion to preserve evidence and a hearing is Monday morning in Morgan County.

A judge also set his preliminary hearing for December 23.

Prosecutors charged Smith with statutory rape and child molestation.

The charges involve two girls in separate cases a few years apart.

The girls were members of Smith's church in Stover.
