KANSAS CITY, MO. (AP) -- Nineteen people have been indicted in a drug-trafficking and money-laundering conspiracy alleged to be worth nearly $1 million.

Most of the defendants live in the Kansas City area -- 16 on the Missouri side of the state line and two on the Kansas side. One defendant is from St. Louis.

The U.S. attorney's office in Kansas City said in a news release that the indictment was unsealed and made public Friday after 16 of the defendants made their initial court appearances.

The release said the conspiracy started in January 2006 and ended this month.
