FULTON, MO -- The word spread fast in Fulton about the second nuclear power plant that will be built in Callaway County.
Gov. Jay Nixon announced Friday the new nuclear power plant will be built on the current Ameren location in the county.
Most residents were happy about the news; one person even described the news as spectacular.
Fulton resident Alan Belcher said with more jobs the entire Mid-Missouri economy will benefit.
"There's going to be people that live in Mokane that are going to go out to eat in Fulton, they're going to go to the Walmart in Fulton, they're gonna go to the implement dealer in Fulton and buy a new lawn mower, or they're going to go shop in Columbia at the mall,” Belcher said. “It's the ripple effect. It's like dropping a rock in a pond, it's going to spread out until it dissipates."
The Fulton Area Development Corporation said they are excited as well.
The construction jobs alone could reach 3,000.
